VISION

Generation Two (G2) is a nonprofit organization that creates intergenerational friendships and child advocacy partnerships between schools and their communities in a deliberate and high quality manner. Generation Two is a civic engagement initiative that asks older adults and college students to create friendships with all children in first grade classrooms. Generation Two friendships celebrate the value of bringing people with different abilities and knowledge together. G2 strives to strengthen and advance skills that first grade children need to thrive inside and outside the school environment. Generation Two builds on early childhood emotional and social learning experiences based on child-centered play and conversation and G2 harnesses the power and compassion of our senior adult citizens and college students. Generation Two volunteers come from urban, suburban and rural communities and they prosper a great deal from knowing each other. Our G2 adult participants form an intergenerational leadership network. As child advocates G2 friends partner with children, parents, teachers and community organizations to communicate a common message about what children need as they face daily challenges and opportunities.
