Who we are:
Generation Two is a non-profit organization that listens to children and speaks to the community. The G2 mission is to create vibrant intergenerational friendships that promote social and emotional strength necessary for children to learn in their classrooms, in their neighborhoods and in their community.
What we do:
Through weekly 30 minute 1:1 child-centered, intergenerational play and conversation meetings, all children in participating kindergarten through second grade classrooms meet with their G2 adult friend. G2 promotes community building and is a mutually beneficial friendship building experience that brings together adults who can support each other as well as the children.
What we have accomplished:
Our 2008-2011 research conducted through the University of Rochester suggests that when G2 children were compared to non-G2 children at the end of the school year, the G2 participants were more enthusiastic about school, rated higher on measures of well-being, liked school more, liked their teachers more and demonstrated fewer problematic behaviors.
